We’ve talked about how to create LUTs in the past, but what if you want to export a LUT and use it somewhere else? It takes five minutes, and we’ll show you how to do it in Adobe Premiere.
How to Export a LUT From Adobe Premiere
First things first: before exporting a LUT, you must create a LUT. In Premiere, doing so is incredibly easy.
The most common way to do this is through Lumetri. Call up the effect using the Effects panel or through the Lumetri panel and adjust each parameter to your liking.
Once you’ve got a look that you can apply to other clips, you’re ready to export the LUT.
Exporting a LUT From Premiere
You’ll want to export this LUT as a CUBE file; the option appears under the Lumetri panel’s hamburger menu.
Choose a folder, name your LUT, and dump it in.
Importing a LUT in Premiere
To apply the LUT to another clip, import it and add it to your sequence. In the Lumetri panel, expand the Input LUT dropdown and select Browse. Choose your LUT from your file directory and hit Open.
As you can see, you’ve done almost no work, but it’s already starting to look a little bit better (if a tad too warm and too bold). From this point, you’re free to refine the grade to suit the new clip. You’ve already saved yourself an extraordinary amount of time.
Exporting LUTs: Premiere Just Got a Whole Lot More Interesting
If your LUT is sweet like jelly, you should spread it. Exporting a LUT is the fastest way to grade broad families of related media: the different shots making up the same scene, or even just a round of candid video clips all shot on the same day and in the same location.
Soon, you’ll have an entire library of LUTs to choose from when you’re editing and color grading footage.
